JOB SUMMARY Performs skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment, and minor construction work in the trades to ensure that facilities are properly maintained.
Plans and schedules preventative maintenance work on all City building systems.
Duties may fall into a variety of trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, energy management, fire and life safety, and key/security systems.
The individual will prepare and maintain departmental maintenance records and service orders (iWorq).
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES The following duties are typical for this classification.
Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices of Grantsville City.
Repairs and maintains a variety of facilities systems, components, and structures; repairs building plumbing, low-voltage electrical systems, door hardware, fire and life safety protection equipment, sensors, fans, lights, and other related items in the facility.
Patch, prep, and paint walls as necessary.
Maintain induction and air handling units; cleans and inspects all equipment, complete filter changes, lubricate, maintain, and service mechanical and refrigeration and/or cooling systems.
Maintain and repair building structures such as roofing, windows, etc.
Assist with mowing, trimming, and watering City facilities.
Assist with broken sprinkler lines and heads.
Identifies repair and maintenance projects requiring the assistance of contractors or vendors; participates in estimates and evaluations of project costs; monitors work of vendors or contractors; assists in the review of new construction or remodel plans.
Assist in snow removal operations using equipment or by hand.
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge of:
Power and hand tools used in facility maintenance.
Repairing or painting walls.
General carpentry.
Installation of fixtures.
Ability to move furniture or materials within the facilities.
Skill in the use of general computers in order to track service orders, and send emails.
Knowledge of one or more building trades.
Some experience with heavy equipment is desirable.
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High school diploma or equivalent.
-Vocational training preferred Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Required to perform after-hours on-call duties.
Must be able to respond within 1 hour for emergency calls.
Additional coursework from a trade or technical school is preferred.
Valid Utah Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.
At least three years of related experience Must be at least 21 years old.
Must be able to work effectively with the public as well as with other employees.
Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Work is performed primarily in the city facilities; occasional field environment with some travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
Physical:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
